About Collier Lilly

Collier Cobb Lilly was a rising junior at Davidson College when he was killed in an automobile accident in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he was employed for the summer. At the time of Collier's death, his parents were asked to make a difficult decision regarding sharing his viable organs. Knowing Collier, they felt he would want them to make the decision to donate his organs.

Collier's heart, liver, kidneys and corneas were all utilized.

The Lilly's have been corresponding with the man who received one of Collier's kidneys. In 1987, at the time of Collier's death, he was given just three months to live. Now, over twenty years later, he is alive and well and enjoying life to the fullest. This is just one story of the life made possible by Collier's gifts.

In memory of Collier, the proceeds from The Collier Lilly Ride 4 Life will be given to LifeShare Of The Carolinas, a Charlotte based organ procurement organization. LifeShare Of The Carolinas serves 37 hospitals in a 23 county area and works closely with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which maintains the national computerized waiting list for potential transplant recipients.

In the United States, organ transplants have saved and enhanced the lives of over 300,000 people. Currently there are over 80,000 people awaiting transplants nationwide, and 17 of these patients die every day - 1 person every 85 minutes. It is our hope to get the word out locally through The Collier Lilly Ride 4 Life, and we hope you will be a part of it.
